Superintendant of Police (Supt.) Mohd Redhza bin Abdul Rahim has taken over as Commandant NPCC from Supt. Rosalind Khoo with effect from 11 July 2011.

Supt. Mohd Redhza was Assistant Director, Service Development & Inspectorate (SD&I) Division, Singapore Police Force (SPF) prior to his current appointment as Commandant NPCC.

Supt. Rosalind Khoo has been posted to Clementi Police Division as its Deputy Commander with effect from 18 July 2011.

We wish Supt. Rosalind Khoo all the best in her new appointment and look forward to Supt. Mohd Redhza's term in the Corps.

Thank you all for allowing me to speak tonight. Today is indeed a special day as we fondly bid farewell to our Sec 4s and thank them for their contributions to the Unit. However this does not mark the end of their journey, instead we celebrate their achievements and wish them well on the road ahead.

I have been with the Unit since 1997, that’s some 14 years ago. Compared to some of our old boy officers, I’m the youngest but I have nonetheless spent half my life associating myself with Maris Stella NPCC Unit. This is no easy feat. I have witnessed many batches of Cadets, CIs and officers come and go, many stories to tell. But there is one particular story I think I should share with you, so bare with me.

I know of this cadet who came into NPCC not initially by his own choice. His father actually suggested that he joined NPCC to have a different experience and to prepare himself for National Service. Coming into a uniformed group is a culture shock as most of you will know, and it was no different for this cadet.

However, he took things in his stride and enjoyed the activities NPCC had to offer. Especially drills. He was so hooked onto drills that he spent his weekends memorizing those long malay commands. Come Sec 2, he had already started to organize unit activities for his juniors. He had coordinated the lifesaving course for the unit and helped trained his junior batch for the lifesaving qualification. Till date, his junior squad was the batch that had the most lifesaving badges issued and this was something he was very proud of.

He was looking forward to Sec 3 to take over and be in charge of handling a squad of cadets and even had aspirations to be in EXCO. Who wouldn’t? However, things did not turn out the way he imagined. When the EXCO posts were announced, he was very disappointed to note that he was not amongst them. The second disappointment came when neither was he made Head NCO of a squad. He was just but an ordinary NCO and a member of a department. He thought that maybe because his involvement in the Students’ Council EXCO had robbed him of a chance to be in the NPCC EXCO. But he did not question why did the teachers made that decision. He thought that there has to be a good reason why they decided it that way. Although up till today, he still doesn’t really know why.

So that is what it was. We can’t change it, and we just have to decide how we’re going to respond to that. As a famous professor once said, “We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand”. Thus that did not stop him from contributing to the Unit as part of the department and continued to focus on grooming his junior batch in time for them to take over. Towards the end of Sec 4, this particular cadet felt that he has more to contribute to the unit and decided to go for the CI course, together with 2 other squadmates.

Again, things did not turn out well. While the other 2 gotten information to go for CI course briefing, this cadet was left out. He could have just stopped there and let it be. However, this cadet was determined to go for the course and went straight to this particular TO to help him appeal. This was already during the O level examination period. Lucky for him, this TO helped him and on the last day of the O level, this cadet was told to attend the briefing session that particular afternoon. He eventually went for the briefing, attended the course and became a CI in Maris Stella and as they say, the rest is history.

I think by now you should know who this particular cadet was. This cadet, who became a CI later overcome all odds, continued to become a HO and he stayed long enough to see his dearest Sec 1 of 2008 develop into fine young men till today. This cadet is standing in front of you right now.

Why am I sharing this story with you? I am by no means blowing my own trumpet. I want to share with you my story because I find it important to be thankful (恩) for the kinds of opportunities (or lack of) that was given to me. I find it even more apt that the boulder which has the words 饮水思源 carved on it is placed outside of the NP room. Every time I walk past it or see it when coming out of the room, it never fails to remind me to be grateful to the Unit and the people in this Unit that have made my journey a memorable and fruitful one.

I am happy to see in this audience the many faces that have touched my life. Mr Samuel Kwek for believing in me since my first muster parade as parade commander, in which you said that I did a good job as I “maintained eye contact” with you when marching towards you; the day you helped me appeal to HQ to send me for CI course; and till today in my HO-ship. I hope I have not disappointed you.

Mingqiang, Yaojie, Laixing and Zhongming - The “Four Heavenly Kings” as I call them, you have indeed inspired me with your leadership and passion not to mention the guidance you have given me in the past 12 years. I am indeed privileged to have such good mentors like you.

My CIs past and present, some of whom I have worked side by side for many years and we still remain as friends after so long, I am very happy for the achievements you have made for yourselves after leaving. My only hope is that some of you will come back and continue contributing to the Unit, hint-hint.

Lastly my cadets past and present, for I hope that I have made a difference in your lives as you have indeed made a positive difference in mine. YOU are the primary reason that I have stayed for so long, whatever I did was with your welfare in mind. I hope bygones will be bygones ya?

Lastly to the Sec 4s, when you were in Sec 1 I had made up my mind to see you through till today and I really hoped for all of us to get to the end together, to give each other a hard pat on the back for completing this journey! Remember the times that I had personally prepared lecture materials and delivered them to you. Remember the times that I accompanied you for courses. Remember the times that I scolded you like nobody’s business. Remember the times that I supported you in competitions. Remember the times we laughed (and cry) together.

Even though there might be challenges along the way, we can brave through the storm TOGETHER! Together we are ONE! No doubt some left us along the way but the time is here for all of us to stay strong and stay true to what we believe in. We will do what we deem is right and have no regrets. No matter where we all are in the end, whether we are at the same finish line, we will smile and say to ourselves: 'Yes I did the right thing!' If you ever feel like giving up, just remember the basic reason why you ever held it so dearly. I have never regretted staying for so long, and I surely hoped that you did not regret staying on these 4 years.

I’m thankful for my years spent with this family, for everything we’ve shared. Every chance we had to grow. I’ll take the best of them with me, and lead by their example wherever I go. A friend told me to be honest with you, so here it goes. This isn’t what I want, but I’ll take the highroad. Maybe its because I look at everything as a lesson, or because I don’t want to walk around angry, or maybe its because I finally understand. There are things we don’t want to happen but have to accept, things we don’t want to know but have to learn. And people we can’t live without but have to let go. I have decided to take a year’s break to focus on other things; I hope all of you will understand. But should you need me to give my 2 cents worth, I will be more willing to oblige. Should I return again in a different capacity, I shall leave it to fate but I hope that my affinity with this Unit will never end.

As per past practices, I have prepared a little something for all of us to reminisce the times we had together. As we watch this montage, let us remember the good and bad times we had together and cherish those memories that made us who we are today. So to my dearest Sec 1 of 2008, I present my gift to you.

Cadets who are going for the Taman Negara trip do take note:

The kit list has been made known to you during the pre-trip briefing. Whatever is stated there is just a suggested list. Most importantly, you have to judge for yourself how much clothes you will be wearing throughout the 5d4n trip. Do not overpack!

Personally I do not think you will need to change 1 track pants per day, unless you seriously soil it everyday. As for "winter clothing", we do not expect you to bring thick winter jackets but rather some warm clothing for the cold (rainy) nights. We are still in the tropics.

Having said all these, you do not want to end up not having sufficient fresh clothes to survive the remaining days too.

This would be a good time to do some decision making and you will be wiser for the upcoming 3d2n ATC/STC in a week's time.

Police Day Parade 2011 Spectators - Call for Nominations

To ALL Sec 2 to 4 cadets,
The Police Day Parade 2011 will be held on 6 June 2011 (Monday) at 5:30pm at the Home Team Academy. The Guest of Honour is Minister for Home Affairs & Minister for Law Mr K Shanmugam. The parade will involve marching contingents and mobile columns from the various police units/divisions.

Our unit can send in 5 cadets + 1 accompany CI/HO/TO. But the cadets going must be minimum Sec 2.

Tentative Details for the Police Day Parade are as follows:
Day & Date: Monday 6 June 2011
Time: 5pm (All cadet spectators to be seated by 5pm)
Venue: Home Team Academy
Attire: NPCC Full-Uniform (including accompanying CI/HO/TO)
Meals: Dinner will be provided after the parade. Entire event is expected to end by 8pm

Please note that transport will NOT be provided. If you are interested and are able to attend the parade (make sure you have seek permission from your parents first), please fill up the google form attached below by 11 May 2011 (Wed). OR you may inform me personally in school before the deadline.

SPF-NPCC Badge Presentation Ceremony 2011

The SPF-NPCC Badge is the pinnacle award for cadets in NPCC. Each year, only the most outstanding graduating NPCC cadets with good leadership qualities are awarded this prestigious badge.

Congratulations to our 8 cadet leaders who were awarded the SPF-NPCC Badge by DCP Wong Hong Kuan on Thursday, 22 April 2011 at Xinmin Secondary School.

NPCC Annual Parade 2011

The Unit was awarded its 12th consecutive Gold Award during the NPCC Annual Parade 2011 held on 16th April 2011 at the Home Team Academy.

Our Vice-Principal (Admin), Mr. Alfred Tan received the award on behalf of the Unit from Mr. Michael Palmer, Chairman NPCC Council & (then) MP for Pasir-Ris Punggol GRC.

The Unit would like to thank all School Leaders, Officers, Parents & Cadets for their support and dedication the past year.
